Teacher Workshop – Biology at Red Rock

November 3, 2018

Biology at Red Rock Canyon will explore the plant and animal biodiversity and carrying capacity of our beautiful canyon. As a biologist for the day, we will talk about concerning issues and possible solutions to help our environment thrive.

We will explore a short easy to moderate trail in the Conservation Area, and participants will discuss what they learn and how to take it back to the
classroom using place-based education. An entire unit with lesson plans correlated to NVACS and NGSS will be provided for immediate implementation in the classroom.

Participants will become familiar with procedures of scheduling field trips to the Red Rock Canyon area. At the end of this course, participants will be able to identify available resources, web-based literature, and hands-on materials available to enhance field trip experiences.

Participants will be in the field during a portion of this course. Dress appropriately for weather conditions, be prepared to be outside, and bring water and a picnic lunch. There is no food available for purchase on site.
